Hobos with shotguns and the NRA

September 3rd, 2010

Here are a couple of random things from the internet to help move your Friday right on in to the holiday weekend. The first is a trailer for a real movie about a killer hobo (unrated so probably NSFW) and the second is a knock-off Kenny Powers impersonation encouraging you to vote, featuring Chuck Norris. I can’t tell if I like it yet, but I’m leaning towards a yes. See for yourselves:

White Lies Geffen/Fiction

Not a new band or anything here – White Lies has been around for a few years, but it occurred to me that I haven’t mentioned them here yet, so I thought I might expose them to the last few of you who aren’t familiar with their sound. Plus I get to bring back some Brits in the process. They call London home, play an 80s-style pop rock with moody vocals that combine emo, indie and punk all at the same time. The song I’ve featured here is a live version of “Death” where the chorus really lends itself well to an outdoor venue. Lots of potential for some good arena rock here and that’s always a good thing.

Guess The Movie – Online Edition

August 31st, 2010

Welcome back to another exciting installment of GTM-OE. I’m happy to be back guest-hosting while Rhett recovers from this past weekend’s Emmy production. Those giant award shows don’t just produce themselves you know. They take months of planning and preparation. It’s a carefully orchestrated symphony of manual labor and creative vision fused together by one man and one man alone. I think we all know who that man is (It’s Rhett). The video above is your first clue, leave guesses in the comments section and I’ll update as necessary. Good luck…

Update: no correct guesses so far, so let’s see if you can combine this next clue with the original and get a right answer:

Update II: no correct guesses so far – here’s your third, and final, clue:

Update III: no one got it. You guys are off your game. Getting lazy and complacent – and that’s when the Chinese come in and take it from you. Look sharp people, next week is a new game. The correct answer was Ferris Bueller’s Day Off - the tale of a young man skipping school to attend Cubs games, eat at fancy restaurants (under the alias Abe Froman) and look at priceless works of art, all the while eluding the pursuit of that crafty Principal Rooney. It’s a story for the ages. Since none of you got it, that means I win. Taste it. Thanks to everyone for playing and I’ll see you back here next week.

Vampire Children

August 26th, 2010

It seems that everyone is down with the vampires these days. So cool, and dark and sexy – there’s a lot to like. But what if you get turned into a vampire when you’re a kid? You stay a kid forever. What if your world isn’t glamarous and decadent? What if you’re just trying to survive out there alone? These are the questions raised by one of the best vampire movies (and just an all-around fantastic film) ever made, Let The Right One In. It’s set in Sweden and is unlike any vampire flick you’ve ever seen. The movie has been out for a couple of years and is already a cult classic, a status attained due to the lack of box office receipts that certainly don’t reflect the film’s worth, but I bring it up now because the American remake is set to be released this October. It’s called Let Me In and is directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and stars the remarkable Chloe Moretz. I posted on Twitter the other day (still can’t bring myself to type “tweeted” – damn I just did it) about how great she is in Kickass and it was no exaggeration. Her performance was incredible and she is the sole reason hope has been given to a remake that many felt should never have been made. If you like vampire movies, or if you just like good movies, make sure you watch Let The Right One In before you see the remake. Then get ready to hope Ms. Moretz can deliver with such ferocity a second time. I think she can. Dig it…

Podcast – The Hoff Meets the Jersey Shore

August 18th, 2010

The podcast is back and spanning the coast more than ever. It’s got 20% more spannierness – believe that. John has brought in west coast resident Chucktown to talk about playing in a band, roasting TV has-beens, reality TV and much more. Maybe there’s even a little classic GTM (hint: there is). It’s all the podcast goodness you’ve been craving, so crank the volume and tell a friend to get their podcast on. That’s cool slang for listening to the podcast. PCC2C knows cool slang. Cowabunga!

Guess The Movie – Online Edition

August 17th, 2010

Welcome back to another brand new installment of GTM-OE. I’m happy to be back guest-hosting while Rhett begins his exploration of Jupiter’s third Galilean moon, Ganymede. He may find the key to solving the world’s inevitable energy crisis. We don’t have a space program capable of such a mission? Your naivety amuses me. Rhett will continue to explore new frontiers while the rest of us ponder which value meal to have for lunch (I like #5). As always, the picture above is your first clue, leave guesses in the comments section and I’ll update as necessary. Good luck.

Update: no correct guesses so far. See if this next clue helps you at all:

Update II: no correct guesses so far and I got sidetracked and didn’t do a good job of updating the clues last week. We’ll keep rolling with this GTM and I may do an unprecedented fourth clue if need be. Keep on guessing, here’s clue #3:

LINK

Update III: We have a winner! The correct answer was 28 Days starring Sandra Bullock. This one is about a charming but troubled girl and her trials and tribulations as she goes through a stint in rehab. It’s not the one about zombies. That’s 28 Days Later. It would be sweet if there was a movie about zombies in rehab. Think about it. Congratulations to this week’s winner, Meredith H. Be sure to tell all your friends how great you are, but only for this week, since I’ll be suspending your greatness for not allowing me to post a 4th clue for the first time ever. Thanks a lot. Thanks to everyone for playing and I’ll see you back here next week.

Jem Sony BMG

She’s from Wales, she’s hot and she’s kind of a big deal. She’s appeared on numerous movie soundtracks, been featured on multiple TV shows and played several big international musical festivals. She hit a good stride with all that back in the mid 2000s but is now bringing it back strong with tracks showing up recently on Gossip Girl and a new album released this year. Jem is back, no holograms needed.

Guess The Movie – Online Edition

Welcome back to another exciting installment of GTM-OE. I’m happy to be back guest-hosting while Rhett continues to make crowds literally weep playing the lead in an off Broadway production of Wicked. Sure it’s a part usually reserved for a female, because it’s a female character, but Rhett has blurred the line of acceptable gender roles with his genius. Genius I tell you. As always, the picture above is your first clue, leave guesses in the comments section and I’ll update as necessary. Good luck…

Update: we have a winner! The correct answer was This is Spinal Tap, where everything goes to eleven when you really want to rock it out. Even when your Stonehenge props come out a bit smaller than expected. Congratulations to Brooks for being this week’s winner – looks like Hales couldn’t get it done without his GTM PEDs. Be sure to tell are your friends how great you are, Brooks, but for this week only, since next week you’ll have run out of beginner’s luck and will be forced to prove your true movie knowledge. Thanks to everyone for playing and I’ll see you back here next week.
